Reality....

You know how sometimes reality slaps you in the face?? Well that's how I felt about a week ago. Since October is breast cancer awarness month there seems to be alot of info about it on TV, etc. So I watched the episode of Oprah with Christina Applegate talking about her resent battle and her choice to get a double masectomy. First of all, her only being 36 kind of got me thinking "should I be getting mammograms?" She said she has a family history so she was getting checked since she was 30. In Oprah talking to her and her doctor, she was mentioning some facts, one that shook me up was that 70 percent of breast cancers are not hereditary. I thought I didn't have to worry until I was 40. Now that fact makes me think I have a good chance of getting a form of breast cancer. Then she says "in the time you have watched this show 20 women will hear the words "you have breast cancer" and 5 will die from it" every hour. Holy crap, 20 women an hour!! I can't believe we don't have a cure for this yet. They put a man on the moon but they can't cure cancer. Like I said, reality slapping you in the face.....

yes i agree it is a reality check and puts things into perspective. last night when shawn got home from work he told me that biannca (dan's wife) was diagnosed with colon cancer a few weeks ago and they removed the mass a few days ago. she is only 30 or 31, and i can not shake the bad feelings i'm having. i also said last night our country is so smart and has so many resources, how can we not have a cure for freakin cancer. so please keep dan and biannca in your prayers and also there 2 young children.

It is scary and it does touch everyone. Today, my childhood friend, Ellen's mother is having surgery to remove a lump in her breast, and Ellen's grandmother died from breast cancer.
My old roommate, Heather is now being told that she should hang up any thoughts of another child and think about a hysterectomy.
Makes you wonder when it all stops and how does it NOT affect everyone eventually.

T-we will certainly keeep Dan and Bianca in our thoughts and prayers. That's scary!!

C-it seems like more and more people are being diagnosed with cancer and they are becoming closer and closer to us and our families...
